About Me
endorphin June 22nd, 2008
Endorphin Addict. Professionally, an ICT headhunter. On the side, an RPM instructor and a cyclist wannabe.
Pretty much inspired by “Its not my bike, but my journey back to life”. A book that tells the story of Lance’s journey through hell, quite literally, brought about by cancer at the prime of his career. It is not just about the end success of him overcoming cancer but the very essense of how he lived through the dreadful time, found strength, continous determination and commitment to fight not just the disease but the whole package of emotional disaster & turmoil brought about by this cancer. His will to live, his passsion to make a mark, his drive to win, and his willingness to pay whatever the price in order to have it. I find that character within remarkable and a role model which we can learn & model.
In addition, I have seen pictures of men and women into their 70s (The oldest participants of Hawaii Ironman: Men : 80 & Women : 76 to be exact) who are strong, healthy & full of energy doing 3.8km swim in the open ocean, bike 180km and then do another marathon in 17 hours or much less.
then there are the picture of old folks that we see everyday in the our shopping malls, in the market places, in the public transports,…who are only in their late 50s or in their 60s, can hardly walk steady, blur, needed the assistance of family members. The contrast is just too scary. I asked myself why that different. There can only be one answer. Their lifestyle. A lifestyle, a value system that they have adopted years ago. Nope, I am not going to do an ironman, at least not at the point of writing this. (Neither am I promoting Ironman) But I see the benefits to life itself in doing sports, not just conveniently but vigorously. What benefits, you may still ask. There are plenty - in the physical, in mental, in spiritual,….it is practically a WHOLE of life. I am no athlete who participates in races such as the biathlon, duathlon, triathlon, ironman….Non of that sort. I do not race. I found no internal reason to do it, I don’t have a point to prove except to have the vigour & stamina of an athlete, live a reasonably healthy & fit life and not to age the way the old folks I commonly see around me. So, yes, I am addicted to a lifestyle of an endorphin-addict : 3-5 times a week of RPM, at times back2back & some outdoor road cycling :eg. some sunday rides, some a little insane ride to Broga & Bukit Hantu, may be some century rides, some Interstates (which I have done, this year will be my turn to just chill, ride when I want, drive when i want to. yeahooo)
I am certainly no expert in the area of cycling. I am no where near the semi pro or pro-cyclists level. Not even near the leisure triathletes & duathletes/biathletes. I can hardly sustain half the speed of the pro. I am on a steep learning curve myself from the many materials & the many season triathletes, biathletes, duathletes, half ironmans, ironmans, cyclists, sportmans around me. Their awesome commitment & drive is inspirational. My wish is to share whatever little info & knowledge I have & hope this blog will inspire you to make that choice… to age gracefully or awefully (some of you may be too young to comprehend this
). I hope you choose to age gracefully and pay the price.
Do drop me a line if you wish to, give me a shout. Your mails & messages are most welcome
Live with passion and live strong ride hard.
Endorphin-addict.
